Alone in the dark starts out as an asylum movie in the vein of the brood only not as cronenbergen and then evolve into a kind of slasher pic, the hole thing is held together,by a great cast some decent direction and a kind of meandering style that keeps you interested.There is the usual problem's hammy dialogue,ropey  effects and a surprising lack of gore for a movie made in 82".On the hole very entertaining a 6-10 .
