Over the summer, I started to really get into scraping the bottom of the movie barrel and for a while there, was mildly fixated in trying to find the ultimate so-bad-it's-good film. I think it started when I saw both The Room (2003) and Lady Terminator (1989) for the first time in the same week. The problem with hunting for the holy grail of shite films is that you have to sit through hours and hours of shite films. The quest for unintentional hilarity is best if you have an audience with you and some form of intoxicant, because suffering in company is always better than suffering alone, and being mildly drunk definitely helps.

So I finally got around to watching the infamous Troll 2. When a good-bad movie's reputation is such that it spawns its own feature-length documentary celebrating the cult that surrounds it, well there's got to be something to it. So what's it like? Well, it's shite of course. The acting is woeful, the dialogue stilted and at sometimes non-sensical. The cinematography is of made-for-TV quality, the effects lazy and cheap, the story's really not worth mentioning and the music, well it's not appalling I suppose, but I wasn't too aware of it bar the opening theme. So why would you want to watch it then? Well you watch it because it's the movie that this clip is from:

The thing is that once that outstandingly awesome moment hits, there isn't a lot more to Troll 2, at least in term of laughs. Like The Room, I felt it just dragged on a little too long and I'm not so sure I'd want to go through it all over again. Just like anything else in life, one man's treasure is another man's trash (and not the good kind) But what do I know, over 19, 000 IMDb voters have endured it and then of course there's that documentary...
